RIP Maurice Sendak, 1928-2012.

Damn. More Maurice here. And here: "I refuse to lie to children." My favorites:

And one I read to my children over and over ("no fighting no biting" became a catchphrase):

P.S.  Had to add this tweet:

Love quote on talking about when he was a kid, "I thought Italians were happy Jews."

  1. RIP Maurice. Let the wild rumpus start!

  2. I was talking with a children's editor friend about him yesterday. We tend to think of children's writers as happy-go-lucky innocents, but he was different. Cranky, a little aggressive, and fascinating, one might not have pegged him as a children's author.

    And we loved his work.
